Business leaders come together to find region’s happiest company

Business owners from across the South West have joined forces with a leadership and happiness expert to find the region’s number one ‘Happy Company’.

TEN has teamed up with Pure Comms and GBRS Recruitment to roll out a competition to search for and find the region’s foremost ‘Happy Company’. Pure Comms is one of the region’s fastest-growing companies and has an office just outside of Bristol and one in Cornwall. GBRS is a recruitment agency based in the South West that is committed to doing business differently and changing perceptions around recruitment.

The competition will be officially launched on Friday March 20, which is World Happiness Day, at the Radisson Blu in Bristol; where William will be hosting a leadership event and talking about the importance of leadership and happiness in business.

Businesses will then have six months to apply and enter the competition, with the winner set to be announced in 2016.

A team of judges will assess the entrants against set criteria that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Rob Vivian, who is the Managing Director of Pure Comms, comments: “As a business we make no secret of the fact we put our customers and staff first. We have an aquarium with rare reptiles at our offices and a train track running through our boardroom. We encourage happiness and thinking differently, so support this campaign fully.”

William comments: “We have chosen Bristol and the surrounding region because of its creativity and the amount of great companies that are based here, many of which are focused around the happiness and the well-being of their staff.

“What makes a happy company? Well using some of the criteria used by the Prime Minister to measure happiness, we will be looking for employee schemes, employee retention, extra-curricular activities, access to events and culture; and the personality of the company. We will also be looking at the how happy and engaged the company’s clients are.

“Everybody will have their own view on what happiness is but there are some common actions we can all measure against.”

William spent 26 years in the Royal Navy and has since worked with organisations such as Lloyds Bank, Deloitte, Liverpool FC, Yo Sushi, Investec and AS Monaco on leadership and success.
