Love isn’t a one-day affair

Every 14th of February, the world erupts in a flurry of roses, chocolates, and grand romantic gestures. While Valentine's Day is a beautiful tradition that celebrates love, it often creates the illusion that love is something to be expressed on just one special day. In reality, love is an everyday act, a continuous choice, and a force that shapes our lives far beyond a single annual celebration. Afterall, Alfred Tennyson once said:  "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever."

LOVE IS A DAILY PRACTICE

Love is not just about dramatic displays of affection or picture-perfect moments. It's found in the small, quiet acts of kindness we show each other every day. Whether it's checking in on a friend, supporting a partner during tough times, or simply sharing a smile with a stranger, love exists in the ordinary. Genuine love is not about grand gestures but about consistency, care, and presence.

ROMANTIC LOVE THRIVES BEYOND ONE DAY

A healthy relationship is not built on one night of fine dining and roses but on mutual respect, understanding, and effort throughout the year. Sustainable love requires communication, patience, and the ability to weather challenges together. If we limit our expressions of love to Valentine's Day, we risk neglecting the deeper, more meaningful aspects of a relationship.

LOVE COMES IN MANY FORMS

Valentine's Day often focuses on romantic love, but love is much broader than that. It exists in friendships, in the bond between parents and children, in acts of self-care, and even in the kindness we show strangers. Every day is an opportunity to express love in different ways through a thoughtful message, a helping hand, or simply by being there for someone in need.

THE COMMERCIALISATION OF LOVE

The modern Valentine's Day industry capitalises on the idea that love must be proven through material gifts. While gifts can be a lovely way to express affection, true love is not something that can be bought. It's in the effort, the time, and the thought we put into our relationships every day of the year.

HOW TO CELEBRATE LOVE EVERY DAY

Instead of saving all your affection for one day, consider ways to make love a daily practice:

  • Express gratitude: tell your loved ones you appreciate them regularly.
  • Show kindness: a small gesture can make a big difference in someone's day.
  • Prioritise quality time: whether it's with a partner, a friend, or family, being fully present matters.
  • Practice self-love: taking care of yourself allows you to love others more fully.

TO CONCLUDE

Valentine's Day is a wonderful reminder to celebrate love, but it should not be the only time we express it. Love is not about one day of romance but about the everyday actions that build and sustain meaningful connections. By embracing love as a daily commitment, we create richer, deeper relationships that last far beyond the 14th day of February each year.
