Leadership Tip

How to make goals work together

Balancing work and life often feels like a trade-off. But it doesn’t have to. Personal and professional goals can support each other if you connect them. Done well, this approach boosts motivation, eases anxiety, and helps you lead a more integrated life. Here are four ways to make it happen:

  1. Double up on benefits. Choose activities that serve both purposes. Exercise, for example, fuels health and energy at work.

  2. Build overlap into routines. Networking over a walk or lunch makes progress on relationships and wellbeing at once.

  3. Ask “how can this serve both?” Before saying no, explore how a goal at home might advance one at work.

  4. Model flexibility. Support remote work, flexible hours, or walking meetings to encourage harmony for your team too.
