Leadership Tip

HOW TO LEAD WHEN UNDER PRESSURE

Pressure reveals how you instinctively respond when decisions matter most. Some leaders rush. Others hesitate. Some become controlling, while others retreat. The challenge is not to eliminate those instincts, but to recognise them and develop the flexibility to respond differently when circumstances demand it.

  1. Expand your range.
Know your default response and practise the opposite. If you rush, slow down. If you hesitate, decide sooner.

  2. Adjust in real time.
Keep asking whether your approach is reducing confusion, creating progress and helping the team.

  3. Use the right strength.
Some moments need calm, others structure, speed, communication or creativity.

  4. Share the load.
Pressure becomes dangerous when everything depends on one person. Build trusted people, clear responsibilities and reliable processes before you need them.
