While to whom you report rarely remains constant throughout your career, it might seem difficult to cope with feelings of uncertainty if your manager unexpectedly leaves the organisation. Sure you cannot control what’s coming next, but you can focus on creating an action plan for yourself. Here are five things you can do during the first week after a change in manager:
- Take time to process your emotions so that you can be prepared for the transition ahead.
- Avoid worrying about things you cannot control and focus on the change itself.
- Recognise the new opportunities this change can bring along.
- Clearly communicate your work priorities with your interim manager.
- Prepare in advance to work with your new boss by, for example, producing a report about your current projects.
