Feel a growing sense of dread as the weekend draws to a close? You're not alone. Research has shown that two-thirds of Britons frequently suffer from anxiety on a Sunday night. A new study by Channel 4, the University of Exeter and Investors in People looked to better understand the causes of the "Sunday scaries". An initial survey found that receiving emails at the weekend and having an unfinished to-do list from the week before are among the triggers, indicating that the underlying factor lies in the blurring between work and home life. Here are some tips to manage pre-Monday anxiety:
- Consider the "bare minimum Mondays" approach to help ease pressure at the beginning of the week.
- Try a digital detox at the weekend, particularly from work-related devices.
- Before you go to bed, do a brain dump, writing down any worries or tasks you want to complete on Monday.
- Help to get yourself in relaxation mode on Fridays by clearing hard deadlines or meetings out of your diary.
- Try to stick to the same sleep schedule over the weekend. [6] Make time for self-care on a Sunday by reading a book or meditating, for example.
