Leadership Tip

How to create a happier team

Happy, engaged employees are good for an organisation. Research shows they are more creative, produce better results, and are willing to go the extra mile. What's more, happiness is contagious; it creates a virtuous cycle that leads to further engagement. To bring more of that into your team, focus on what psychologists have identified as the three pathways to happiness: pleasure, engagement, and meaning. Consider whether you are actively encouraging these things in your people.

1. Do they enjoy their relationships and their environment at work?

2. Do they laugh, feel inspired and want to do a good job?

3. Do they fill roles that fit their skill sets and offer appropriate challenges?

4. Do they feel they're a part of something that matters?

If the answer is no to any of these questions, consider how you can adjust the team environment to bring more happiness in. One way of achieving greater engagement is to sign up to 10/10, our acclaimed leadership development and mentoring programme. One of the 10 modules covers "wellbeing" and it comes with a 100 per cent happiness guarantee. What's more, if you sign up before 31 March 2018, it comes with 50% government funding. At just £750 plus VAT per delegate, the programme represents great value for a whole year of first-class leadership support. READ MORE
