Leadership Tip

How to thrive when WFH

Even before the new abnormal of lockdown, most of us were tired most days of the week. Now we are juggling the demands of family, school and work from our homes. Life got a whole lot more exhausting. Here are some tips for recharging.

  1. Set a start time: Most of us begin the day checking phones and messages, relinquishing control of our mood, energy and schedule. Set clear boundaries around your work.

  2. Take time to celebrate: Don’t just plough through your list of tasks but set yourself rewards for completing them. Giving yourself something to look forward to will help lift mental fatigue and boost efficiency.

  3. Change your view: We often mistake eye strain for tiredness, so set regular screen breaks.

  4. Exercise or relax: Taking a break for 20 minutes of exercise, stretching or meditating breaks us out of our shallow breathing habit, which boosts alertness and lifts mood.

  5. Create mental space: It’s important also to take white space breaks that are honoured like an important meeting so you have the time to completely relax.
