People who feel overwhelmed often “double down” on behaviours that can make their situations appear worse. There are a series of steps people should take instead of employing their default behaviours, isolating themselves, not seeking help and thinking they’re weak. You could try these strategies:
- Take the time to do something that will make the situation easier.
- Take a break to let your mind wander and possibly stumble on solutions.
- Be compassionate to yourself and the situation.
- Evaluate your responses to the situation and what would be most helpful.
