Leadership Tip

How to reinvent yourself

The idea of reinvention may seem overwhelming, and for some, it can be - especially when the path to the next phase isn't linear. Though we might feel uncertain about how we want to change our lives or careers, there are four stages that lead us to transformation:

  1. Search, the often-unintentional stage of gathering information.
  2. Struggle, a tense period of disconnection with our previous identity and indecision about our new one.
  3. Stop, an end that diverts our routine, like quitting or being laid off.
  4. Solution, the final pivot to the new identity.
