Leadership Tip

How to stay forever employable

Many of us chart out our career plans early on in life. But things do not always turn out the way we want them to – some find that their passion lies elsewhere, while some struggle to envision the second half of their careers in terms of seniority, salary and fulfilment. The answer to this is in staying forever employable by developing expertise in one domain and allowing new opportunities come to you. Here’s how:

  1. Embrace entrepreneurialism. Be ready to make a transition if required and put your ideas out there to land opportunities and turn them into successful ventures.

  2. Develop self-confidence. Know that your experience is unique and build on this knowledge to take on new projects.

  3. Learn continuously: Read blog posts, listen to podcasts by people who can inspire you.

  4. Improve constantly. Always be looking for ways to be better at your work.

  5. Reinvent yourself. Be prepared to act fast when an opportunity presents itself.
