How to realise a mid-career change

Changing career paths or finding a new role mid-career needs a multi-pronged approach, career experts suggest. Taking stock of your skills, highlighting your strengths and seeking out honest feedback from trusted friends and colleagues can help you work out where to go and what you should be looking for. Here's what experts advise:

  1. Look at job ads with the title you're aiming for, pick the top five skills and work out what transferable experience you have for each.
  2. Highlight your "most marketable skills" in the profile of your CV and the top of your online profile.
  3. Streamline your CV by removing any experience that isn't directly relevant to the new field you want to enter.
  4. Always keep networking – opportunities can appear anywhere.
